Welcome to Ladue Middle School! We work hard to keep our parents and community informed and up-to-date. Please let me know if there is additional information needed in the update that would be helpful to you.
Cathy M. Richter, Ph.D.
Principal
OUR OFFICE HOURS ARE
7:30 A.M. TO 3:15 P.M.
or 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays when after school activities are in session.
Farewell to you. It has been a pleasure and a blessing to have served as Ladue Middle School principal. Thank you for trusting me with your children. I will be at LMS through June 30 and can be reached at my Ladue email and telephone.
My future plans are still developing. I do not anticipate working for Ladue so I am looking for new opportunities. I will definitely spend more time helping with my mother’s care and spend more time with my family, but I also hope to work in some capacity. If you know of work out there that you think I could do well, please let me know!
After June 30, here is my contact information if you want to stay in touch:

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!
NEW PRINCIPAL
Dr. Vicki VanLaere…will be the new principal of Ladue Middle School. She will be visiting LMS during the next three days to meet some students, staff, and parents. Please say “hello” if you see her.

VanLaere received her Doctorate in Education, her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and her Specialist’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Missouri in St. Louis. She received her Middle School Endorsement from Southwest Baptist University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Central University of Iowa.
“Dr. VanLaere is an energetic and accomplished administrator,” says Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. Judy Sclair. “She is passionate about the middle school years in terms of the importance of both personal and academic growth. This enthusiasm for middle school students, in combination with her knowledge and leadership skills, will serve the students of our district well in the years to come.”
MEDICATION PICK UP
All medications may be picked up between now and the end of the school day on Tuesday, May 22 or they will be disposed of per district policy. The nurse has medications from 6th grade camp, and 7th grade KC trip in addition to the medications that have been on hand throughout the school year.
Parents are welcome to call Ann Body if special arrangements need to be made, but medications cannot be sent home with students. A reminder that all 6th and 7th graders are off campus on most of Tuesday, May 22 and all the emergency medications will be with the students that day, so picking their student up that day would be a good plan since you can get the medications and your child all in one visit.
Thanks,
Ann Body RN

Summer Hours 2012
Beginning the week of May 28* through the week of July 16, all district buildings (with the exception of the high school and Spoede for SSD programming, only) will operate on a 4-day workweek, Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff will take a 30-minute lunch during the 4-day workweeks. The Administrative Center will also be closed on Fridays for the dates listed above.
*May 28th is Memorial Day, so that week, we will operate a three-day week, Tuesday through Thursday.
All district buildings will be closed during the winter and spring breaks.
PLACEMENT LETTERS
Mathematics and Communication Arts placement letters have been mailed.
We have looked at multiple data points and talked with teachers for several weeks to determine best placement for students in Mathematics and Communication Arts.
Any parent who wants to have the placement decision reviewed should submit a PLACEMENT REVIEW FORM to the middle school office NO LATER THAN June 1. I will be out of the office from May 24 through June 1. I will review the data beginning June 4 and you will be contacted you regarding the final placement decision.
Activity Fee Refund
As you know, at the beginning of this year, the district charged an Activity Fee for each middle school ($25) student. As noted at the time, these additional resources were used to offset the costs of clubs, sports, as well as other extra curricular activities. However, we recently learned of a March 27, 2012 court decision which held that districts are not allowed to charge such fees unless they are charged for a particular extra curricular activity in which a student is specifically participating.
As a result, the district will gladly refund the 2011-12 activity fee to any families who would like to take advantage of this option. To request your refund, please go to the Ladue Schools website at www.ladueschools.net by June 1, 2012 to complete and submit the “Activity Fee Refund Form.”
Checks will be mailed to all those requesting refunds by the end of June 2012.
If you do not wish to request a refund, please know your contribution was used to fund activities that may have otherwise been reduced or eliminated. All such contributions are deeply appreciated. In order to assure we can continue to offer the extracurricular activities needed or wanted for our students and families in the future, specific activity fees may be reviewed for use again at some future
point. However, there will be no activity fees for the 2012-13 school year.
